Description
This preset lets you generate images with a Ghibli Style theme, either from prompt or a photo. Inspired by the renowned Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli, founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, our preset captures the essence of their distinctive aesthetic.
Studio Ghibli's films, such as "Spirited Away", "Ponyo", and "My Neighbor Totoro", are famous for their imaginative and detailed animation, as well as their emotional depth. Our preset combines elements of traditional Japanese art and culture to bring this unique style to life.
Ghibli movies typically have a watercolor-like texture and a color scheme that's predominantly pastel. This combination creates a warm, soft atmosphere.
This preset is good for anime, traditional animation, fantasy illustration and drawing styles.

Copyright and ethical concern
Studio Ghibli has inspired countless artists and creatives. With the rise of digital art tools and AI-generated imagery, it's easier than ever to create artwork in a style reminiscent of Ghibli's beloved films. However, this newfound ease raises important questions about copyright and ethical concerns.
Copyright Concerns
Studio Ghibli retains the exclusive rights to its intellectual property, including its iconic characters and styles. Any work that uses these characters or styles without permission may be considered copyright infringement.
In the United States, copyright law grants exclusive rights to the creator of an original work, including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works. This means that Studio Ghibli retains the exclusive right to create, reproduce, and distribute works featuring their characters and styles.
For more information on Ghibli's copyright material, visit their official website: https://www.ghibli.jp/copyright/.
Ethical Concerns
Beyond legal considerations, there are ethical concerns surrounding the use of Ghibli-inspired styles. Some artists may use these styles to create commercial works without properly acknowledging or compensating Studio Ghibli. This can be seen as profiting from another's creative work without permission or recognition.
Personal Usage: The Exception to the Rule
While commercial use of Ghibli-inspired styles can raise red flags, personal usage is generally considered acceptable. Fans and artists are free to create artwork inspired by Studio Ghibli's iconic styles for personal enjoyment, as long as they don't profit from it or pass it off as their own original work.
In fact, Studio Ghibli has historically taken a soft stance on fan art, recognizing the passion and creativity of their fans. Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, has even stated that he finds fan art "flattering" and "heartwarming."
Responsible Artistic Expression
So, how can artists responsibly pay homage to Studio Ghibli's iconic styles while avoiding copyright and ethical concerns?
- Create original work: Use Ghibli-inspired styles as a starting point, but add your own unique ideas to create something truly original.
- Give credit where credit is due: Clearly acknowledge the inspiration behind your work, crediting Studio Ghibli and their characters.
- Don't profit from others' work: Refrain from selling prints, merchandise, or other commercial goods featuring Ghibli-inspired artwork without permission.
