"Stay safe” he said "I'll return before winter.” he said to his daughter
The sun's first rays crept over the horizon, painting the horizon in shades of crimson and gold. Sir Valoric adjusted his helm, the morning light glinting off the polished steel as he looked down at his daughter, Elara. She clutched a small, folded piece of parchment to her chest, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"Stay safe, my dear," Valoric said, his deep voice tinged with concern. "I'll return before winter." He reached out to gently brush a stray lock of hair from her face, his gauntleted hand clumsy but loving.
Elara nodded, her lower lip trembling. "I will, father. Come back to me." She managed a weak smile, but her voice cracked with emotion.
Valoric's eyes softened, and he leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead. "I promise. Until then, remember what I taught you. Your safety is paramount."
With a final, lingering look, Valoric turned his bay horse and rode off towards the distant mountains, the sound of clanking armor fading into the morning air. Elara watched him go, her heart heavy with the knowledge of the perils he faced, and the long, uncertain months that lay ahead.
